MUDA / NEW GALLERY

It’s a collective that creates a platform for students to showcase their art, foster a community of artists, and facilitate connections among students across different disciplines within The New School, creating a community and a space for artists/students to express themselves outside of class.

In addition to visual arts, we aim to incorporate music into the event. Students from Jazz and performance art can perform live, adding a dynamic and engaging element to the gallery night. This will not only showcase the musical talents of our students but also create a vibrant and enjoyable atmosphere for attendees.

Muda" symbolizes transformation and renewal, much like the changing of seasons. In nature, each transition brings an opportunity to shed the old and embrace something fresh and new.

How did it start?

When I began my studies at Parsons School of Design in New York, I was excited about the idea of being surrounded by such a vibrant city—one where the city itself felt like an extension of the campus. I envisioned a place where I could not only showcase my work but also engage with other artists and meet people from The New School outside the classroom. However, as I started to ask around, I was surprised to find there was no dedicated space for young artists to truly express themselves beyond the academic setting. This lack of a creative outlet prompted me to take matters into my own hands. With the support of an incredible team, including Parvathy Ramesh and Zevin Acuña, we worked tirelessly to create a platform for student artists to share their work and connect with the larger creative community.

Humanistic Fingerprint

“Every human being has a tendency to leave something behind—a story, memory, piece of technology, or work of art. We all desire to be remembered for something we accomplished in our lives, regardless of what we may be doing today. Our fingerprints are left on the bodies of the world through each creation, invention, or written word, acting as a testament to our existence and connecting us with future generations."
